How To Make Fried Rice

A favorite take-out food, this dish is delicious and fun to prepare and customize with your preferred ingredients. Fried rice makes a great entree or side dish.

You Will Need

  • 4 tbsp. sesame or vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp. grated fresh ginger
  • 4-5 c. pre-cooked long grain rice, refrigerated
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 4 tbsp. frozen peas, thawed
  • 1 c. shredded carrots
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • Salt and pepper
  • Wok
  • Chopsticks
  • Cooked chicken, shrimp, beef, pork, or tofu (optional)
How To Make Fried Rice: Beat the eggs

Step 1: Beat the eggs

Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in your wok. Add the minced garlic and ginger and stir until they’re softened, and then pour in the beaten eggs, scrambling gently.
How To Make Fried Rice: Fold in the rice

Step 2: Fold in the rice

Coat your wok with additional oil and fold in the cold rice, stirring continuously until the rice grains are separated. Then add the soy sauce, a little bit at a time, until the rice is golden brown.
How To Make Fried Rice: Add the vegetables

Step 3: Add the vegetables

Add the peas, carrots, and green onion, and mix thoroughly.
Add your favorite cooked meat or seafood for extra protein and flavor. Use drained, firm tofu, cut into cubes for vegetarian dishes.
How To Make Fried Rice: Continue cooking

Step 4: Continue cooking

Continue cooking over medium-high heat until the vegetables are tender. Season with salt and pepper.

Step 5: Serve the rice

Spoon the rice into bowls. Garnish it with additional green onion and soy sauce, and serve it with chopsticks.
